MINOR DETAIL by Adania Shibli : an important and relevant novella

Adania Shibli’s International Booker longlisted novella Minor detail is the most relevant piece of literature in this current political climate.

This book has only two timelines, one of the Summer of 1949 when a Bedouin woman is hurt, raped and killed and the other of a modern Palestinian woman’s search for the murder.

The book is really cleverly structured, not a single word is extra. Even with 112 pages of length it says a lot with little.

Shibli’s novel speaks about horrible past as well as current political situation about life in Palestine and almost real life death situation present there.

The most remarkable theme in the book is how these minor details are actually forgotten without any discussions whether in past or present.
